According to IDEA (2018), "Other Health Impairments" means having limited strength, vitality, or alertness, including a heightened alertness to environmental stimuli, that results in limited alertness with respect to the education environment. These include, but are not limited to, chronic health problems like asthma, ADD, ADHD, diabetes, epilepsy, heart conditions, hemophilia, lead poisoning, leukemia, nephritis, rheumatic fever, sickle cell anemia, and Tourette syndrom.
There are many different subtypes to these diseases, such as ADHD (Predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and combined). Depending on the type of disease and what the sub-type is, there could be different types of academic disruption that require different academic accommodations.
