key concept: Raw materials are processed using tools and precesses; Harvest- crush-filter- boil-crystalize (DBE workbook,2011)
activity: learners sequence picture cards of sugar production and identify tools used. skills acquired are sequencing and investigating.

key concept: farmers, farmworkers, brick makers and builders have different roles in processing products( Caps SS concept: work)
activity: role play - who made this sugar or brick. learners can draw a worker in their books and and write one to three sentences explaing their job roles.

Sugar from sugarcane
key concept: plants make sugar through photosynthesis and sugar cane is a natural resource that needs soil,water and the sun( Naude & Meier,2025:89)
activity: learners taste raw sugarcane juice as compared to white sugar and observe with a magnifying glass. the skill acquired will be observing and comparing
properties of clay.
key concept: clay is a natural material found in soil that is soft when wet and hard when dry or heated(dbe,2011)
activity: learners should touch wet clay and dry clay and a fired brick and record the different texture , colour and hardness in a table . skill acquired is observing and describing
