PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Initiation
Definition: The starting phase where the project’s value, feasibility, and objectives are defined.
Key Outputs: Project Charter, Stakeholder Identification, High-Level Business Case.
Connection: Passes the approved Project Charter and high-level objectives forward to the Planning phase.
Planning
Definition: The phase where detailed operational strategies, schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation tactics are developed.
Key Outputs: Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Gantt Chart/Schedule, Budget Allocation, Risk Assessment Plan.
Connection: Serves as the benchmark guide for the Execution phase and establishes performance baselines for the Monitoring and Controlling phase.
Execution
Definition: The actionable phase where team resources are assigned, deliverables are constructed, and actual project work takes place according to the plan.
Key Outputs: Work Deliverables, Team Assignments, Status Reports.
Connection: Runs simultaneously with Monitoring and Controlling to ensure output aligns with established quality metrics.
Monitoring & Controlling
Definition: The ongoing process of tracking progress, assessing variance against the project plan, and making necessary adjustments or corrective actions.
Key Outputs: Variance Reports, Change Requests, Quality Control Audits.
Connection: Feeds back into Planning if adjustments are required (change management) and releases verified deliverables to the Closing phase.
Closing
Definition: The final phase where deliverables are formally handed over, contracts are closed, resources are released, and project performance is evaluated.
Key Outputs: Final Handover Acceptance, Lessons Learned Document, Administrative Archive.
Connection: Receives completed work from the Execution/Monitoring loop to officially end the project lifecycle.
