Products And Processes:
Natural Science
Matter & Materials
Class Activity: Learners observe and compare sugar cane, sugar, clay and bricks and predict how their texture and appearance changes during processing. The teacher lets the learners feel and explore the texture of a sugarcane, processed sugar, clay and a brick.
Concept: Raw materials are turned into manufactured goods. This changes the texture and appearance of the raw material. (Jenkins, 2024).
Life and Living
Class Activity: Learners examine a sugar cane plant and processed sugar and investigate how it is processed and turned into sugar from a sugarcane.
Content: Sugar cane is a plant. It is a raw material that produces various resources, mainly sugar. (Humbert, 2021).

Change
Class Activity: Learners investigate how sugar cane and clay change into useful products. They can be shown real videos of the process. They then discuss why we would need these products (bricks and sugar).
Concept: People change raw materials into useful products through a manufacturing process (Britannica, 2026).
Technology
Structures
Concept: Bricks are a product made from clay that is used to build structures such as houses. They are used because they are durable, long-lasting and made from a natural material (BKreative, 2017).
Class Activity: Learners examine brick structures and design a simple structure using blocks or paper bricks.
Processing
Class Activity: Learners sequence the stages of sugar production a predict what happens at each stage. They can then use sequencing cards to put into the correct order that shows the correct process of how sugar is made from sugarcane.
Concept: Processing is when raw materials are changed into useful products following process steps ( Britannica, 2026).
