Grave's Disease
Symptoms
Sensitivity to warm temperatures
Excessive sweating
Weight loss
Fatigue and weakness
Increased anxiety
Shortness of breath
heart palpations
frequent bowel movements
Irregular menstrual cycles (for female patients)
Signs
Reduced Blinking Rate
Tachycardia/arrhythmia
Grave's ophthalmopathy
tremors in hands and fingers
Goiter
Grave's demopathy
Prognosis
Permanently resolved through thyroidectomy/radioactive iodine therapy
Hypothyroidism may develop with thyroidectomy/radioactive iodine therapy
Resolves through medications( relapse possible)
Ophthalmopathy signs improved from eye therapy
Untreated could lead to severe/life-threatening issues
Death is possible if untreated

Treatment
Thyroidectomy full/partial
Eye therapy
Radioiodine Therapy
Dietary and lifestyle Changes:
Eliminate nicotine/tobacco use
Avoid iodine supplements/foods
Medications
Antithyroid drugs
Anxiolytics
Beta-blockers
Etiology
use of nicotine/tobacco products (modifiable risk factor)
Environmental triggers stimulate a reaction
Risk factors non-modifiable:
Ages 20-40
Pre-exiting disorders:
Type 1 diabetes
vitigo
Rheumatoid arthritis
Autoimmune Gastritis
Female
Inherited genes susceptible to disease
