🏛️ The theatres
The first permanent theatre was built in London in 1576 by James Burbage.
Theatres were open-air buildings and were usually circular or octagonal.
They could hold up to 3,000 people.
The Globe Theatre was built in 1599.
🎬 The stage
stage was rectangular and projected into the audience

Poor spectators stood in the central area called the pit and paid one penny.
Richer spectators sat in covered galleries.
Rich nobles could watch the play from chairs on the side of the stage.

🎭 The actors
learn many new plays and had little time to prepare
improvise when necessary
no actresses, so boys played the parts of young women
Actors worked in companies and shared the profits of the plays.
