Etiology
Caused by trachomatis
Sexually transmitted
Often asymptomatic
Common in young sexually active people
Symptoms
Dysuria
Itching
Abdominal or pelvic pain
Pain with intercourse
Pathophysiology
Bacterial infection of the genital/urinary tract
Inflammation of urethra, cervix, or other reproductive organs
Can ascend to cause PID in females or epididymitis in males
Signs
Purulent drainage
Urethritis
Positive culture/DNA test
Diagnosis
Cytologic examination
Culture for Chlamydia
DNA probe test
Prognosis
Good with early treatment
If untreated, can lead to PID
May cause infertility or sterility
Treatmemt
Antibiotics
