Energy
Energy exists in different forms 3.1.
Different forms of energy have different uses.
Energy
Forms of energy
Thermal energy the total amount of energy from the movement of particles in matter is thermal energy
Electromagnetic energy is energy that is transmitted through space in the form of electromagnetic waves
Sound energy energy that is stored in the chemical composition of matter is chemical energy.
Nuclear energy, the center of an atom its nucleus is the source of nuclear energy.
Mechanical energy the energy that moves objects
Light energy Wich is also electromagnetoc energy.
Kinetic energy and potential energy are the two general types of energy.
Kinetic energy.
Kinetic energy increases as mass increases.
Kinetic energy increases as speed increases.
Equation is 1/2 MV^2
Same thing as motion energy.
Potential energy.
Potential energy is the stored energy that an object has due to its position or chemical composition.
Energy can change forms but is never lost 3.2.
Energy can change forms.
Conversion between potential energy and kinetic energy.
Ski jumper at the top of the hill gives him potential energy because of gravity.
Gravitation energy formula Ug=mgh
Once the ski jumper goes down some of his potential energy changes into kinetic energy which moves him down the ramp.
When the ski jumper takes off from the ramp, some of his kinetic energy is changed back into potential energy as he rises in the air.
Using energy conversions.
The kinetic energy of the moving water turns turbines within the dam. The water's kinetic energy becomes kinetic energy in turbines. The kinetic energy of the turning turbines is converted into electrical energy by electrical generators.
Some of the water is allowed to flow through a tunnel within the dam. The potential energy In the stored water changes into kinetic energy when the water moves through the tunnel.
The water held behind the dam has potential energy because of its position.
Electrical energy is transported away from the dam through wires. The electrical energy is converted into many different forms of energy and is used in many different ways. For example, at a concert or play, electrical energy is converted into light and heat by lighting systems and into sound energy by sound systems.
Energy is always conserved.
Law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed.
Energy conversion may produce unwanted forms of energy.
Energy efficiency is a measurement of usable energy after energy conversion.
Technology improves the ways people use energy 3.3.
Technology improves the use of energy resources.
Wind energy to move ships and produce electrical energy.
Technology improves energy conversions.
Energy conservation equation is E2 - E1 = Q - W
Efficient cars.
Efficient lights.
