How Lifeworlds Work
Identity and Experinces
Loss and rebuilding
Greif can change ones perspective on how the world works. In order to rebuild from this it is common for people to seek help from their community.
Despite having a community and customs to help with the process of dealing with the loss of a loved one it can still feel isolating when other people around you are not experiencing the same emotions as you are.
Haka can help people express emotions that they are feeling when the people around them are not feeling the same way that they are.

Liminality
Liminality is when you are in a transitory period, this can make people feel uncertain about there future because they are having to leave their pervious role in the community.
Liminality is a situation that tends to make people fell uncomfortable because you are having to leave that past behind you and start something new.
Going through liminality can create a complex set of emotions like fear, anxiety, confusion, and hope
Life transitions
Initiations can change a person's social status and this can lead to the person experiencing a variety of emotions. These emotions can come from the increase in responsibilities and the different ways that they are treated by members of their community.
Having a change in social status can lead to a person feeling uncomfertable in a unfamilar role in their life.
Jackson saw girls who were preparing for biriye sing when they were preparing for there initiations and also when they were about to be forced to be married to a man that was outside of their village.
Position and perspective
Jackson gives an example of how fear shapes all communities and not just those in Africa by mentioning how the Ebola outbreak caused schools in Ohio and Texas to close.
The concept that someone is somehow wiser than someone else because of the social standing or position you have is challenge by Jackson. He explains how women and children show qualities like being resilient and good leaders. This goes against the idea that only men and the elders can be good leaders.

Control and uncertainty
People will often times attempt to rationalize situations that make them feel confused or if they cannot control the situation. Even if they cannot change the situation itself coming up with an explanation can make them feel less powerless
-
When people give meanings to experinces that are unknown to them this can influence how they respond and help them cope with being uncertain about a given situation.
Coming up with a explanation for a situation you do not understand can make someone feel more comfortable even if the explanation is not accurate.
Rituals can help people process what they do not understand while also making them feel more comfortable.
Scarcity and survival
Having a lack of resources can create tension because debates arise about who should be helping and who should be receiving the help
When people do not have enough food or money then relationships with other people can become much more important.
Social Relationships
-
kinship and family
Kinship involves relationships, and connections with different people not just connections with your family. Someone might be treated as family because they are supporting one another and because they are family.
-
-
When there are limited resources and you cannot help out your family it can be difficult because you may not be able to help that person out the way that you want to.
-
Jackson gives an example of Hare turning Hyena's instructions against him. This shows that family members that are older than one another may abuse the power that they have and younger one's may try to do to resist this.
-
