Enzyme function and regulation - Coggle Diagram
Enzyme function and regulation
Feedback inhibition
Feedback inhibition is when the final product of a reaction pathway stops or slows down an earlier enzyme when enough product has been made
Activators
Enzyme activators are the substance that increase the activity of an enzyme helping the enzyme work faster and more effectively. They can bind to an enzyme and help it maintain the correct shape which makes it easier for the substrate to bind to the activation site
Inhibitors
Enzyme inhibitors are substances that decrease or stop the activity of an enzyme they work by interfering with the enzyme or preventing the substrate from, binding properly
Non competitive in hit or binds to a different part of the enzyme changing its shape so the substrate cannot bind properly
competitive inhibitor competes with the substrate for the active site
Induced fit
Induced fit is when the active sit of an enzyme changes shape slightly when the substrate binds to it, creating a better fit
Enzyme substrate complex
An enzyme substrate complex is formed when a substrate binds to the active site of an enzyme
A substrate is the molecule that an enzyme acts on durning a chemical reaction
Cofactors and coenzymes
Cofactor is a non protein helper that an enzyme needs to work properly usually a mineral or metal ion
Coenzyme is an organic helper molecule that helps enzyme carry out a reaction often from vitamins
:
Allosteric regulation
Allosteric regulation is when a molecule binds to an enzyme at a site other then the activation site causing the enzyme to change shape and changing how well it works
Activator binds and the enzymes becomes more active
Inhibitor binds and the enzymes becomes becomes less active
