Everyone would go for their soul, many people left money in their wills, it was a social place, Bibles were in Latin it was the only place they could understand the word of God, centre of community it healed the sick, people were terrified of the torture of hell, kings closest advisers were members of the church, people paid them a tax, the church owned 20% of the land in England
