Spot Diagnosis
Inspection is most important
Pigmented lesion on the face is most likely BCC, melanoma is very rare
Melanoma in asian patients are most likely found on the feet (acromelanoma)
Keloid
Around the presternal, deltoid (BCG scars), ear
Dermatofibroma
Ganglion
Commonly around joint areas
Completely benign condition
Sebaceous cyst
Sebaceous nevus
Often found in the scalp and hair bearing area
Has malignant potential
Seborrheic keratosis
Normal part of skin aging
BCC
Most often on the nose and ear
Very common
SCC
Has a keratinised appearance
Has a chance of being in a sebaceous horn
Has to have a excisional biopsy done
Systematic inspection
Site
Laterality
Ipsilateral, contralateral
Anatomical terms
Dorsal, caudal, cranial, anterior, etc.
Number
Size
Two dimensions using a ruler
Shape
Surface
Color, homogenicity, ulcer
Surrounding skin condition
Evidence of previous treatment
Scar, radiotherapy, flap
Lesion over the scar indicates recurrence
Radiodermatitis due to chronic radiotherapy is dark and hard skin
Flaps are almost always for reconstructive surgery for cancer
