TYPES OF ASSESSMENT :pencil2:
Assessment: The process of gathering data about teaching and student learning in order to evaluate performance and make decisions.
Summative Assessment
takes place after learning has been completed. It summarizes the teaching and learning process
· Major examinations – high-stakes tests used to evaluate learning.
· Final examination – a cumulative assessment at the end of a course or instructional period.
· Term papers – final written products used to demonstrate learning.
· Projects – completed products assessed after the learning process.
· Portfolios – collections of student work evaluated as a final product.
Diagnostic Assessment
Used before teaching begins to identify students’ current knowledge, skills, abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and misconceptions.
· Pre-tests – check students’ existing content knowledge and abilities.
· Self-assessments – help learners identify their own skills and competencies.
· Discussion-board responses – reveal prior knowledge through content-specific prompts.
· Interviews – brief individual conversations that help the teacher identify students’ knowledge and needs.

Formative Assessment
takes place during instruction while learning is occurring. It provides feedback about student progress and teaching effectiveness and helps identify areas that need improvement.
· Teacher observations during in-class activities – provide information about student performance and non-verbal feedback.
· Homework exercises – can be used as review for examinations and class discussions.
· Reflection journals – allow students and teachers to monitor learning over time.
· Question-and-answer sessions – formal or informal questioning checks understanding during instruction.
· Student-teacher conferences – provide individual feedback at different points in the course.
