Lens: Cultural/social How do racism and economic inequality intersect with transphobia to make black and indigenous transgender women disproportionately vulnerable to fatal violence?
These two key factors intersect with transphobia because, while those who are in a low-ranking class are already looked down upon, others who may be a different race will also be looked down upon. While these are all factors that are looked down upon alone, together they cause the discrimination to get worse,e as they have two reasons to justify their actions. How does this connect to transphobia? Transphobiais whene people are against those who are transgender/identify as a different gender that isn’t their biological gender. Transphobia is also another reason as to why people get discriminated against, which is by what they identify as. Now,w if someone were these three things- poor, African American, AND transgender-, that would escalate the rate of discrimination, as people will believe they have more "ammunition" to discriminate against those transgender individuals.
Evidence: “These results suggest that there is an urgent need to address violence perpetrated against transgender and gender-diverse people through implementation of evidence-based violence prevention and response strategies across settings.”
