What hazards affect hazard risk? - Coggle Diagram
What hazards affect hazard risk?
Frequency
How often the event occurs
High frequency may cause greater capacity to cope with hazards
Low frequency may mean they don't have the infreastructure to cope with the hazard.
If a hazard is more frequent then it could cause the country to invest in better building designs.
Building Design
How well the buildings are equipped to cope with a hazard.
Shock absorbers might protect from eaquakes.
Good building design can limit damage.
Perception
Perception is how people think of the disaster
Government
The Government can decide where to put its money to limit damage from hazards
If the government is corrupt then then money might not go to the right places
Emergency Services
Emergency services can help rescue people from wreckage or take people to hospitals
If there is bad emergency services it could increase the death toll as people wouldn't be able to get the right help
Warning time
If people have a large warning time then they have time to evacuate and get to safety
Good scientific facilities can help get better warning times.
Size of area
The size of the area could affect how far people have to travel to get to safety.
If there is a small area, less people are affected
Magnitude
Magnitude is how large scale the hazard is
If there is a large magnitude it could mean that more people are affected and buildings and infrastructure could suffer greater levels of damage
National Wealth
National wealthis how much money the country has and could affect how much money they have to spend on damage limitation.
High levels of national wealth means that the government has more money to invest in scientific systems that can help increase warning times.
Education
If people are educated they will know what areas to live in and know where to invest their money, like in shock absorbers for earthquake prone areas
Educated people can create more jobs and increase national wealth
Poverty
People living in povery could potentially not afford damage limitation systems or may have to live in areas that are cheaper because they are prone to natural hazards
