How do they work?
- WBC w/ complementary receptors bind to antigens on the pathogen
- WBC is stimulated to divide and increase in numbers w/ the receptor
- Antibodies destroy pathogen by agglutination or lysis
- Some WBCs remain in the blood stream for a long time as memory cells. So that in the future when the pathogen invades, memory cells can recognize it and quickly produce antibodies to destroy it.
Contains an agent that resembles a pathogen which prevents infectious diseases by stimulating white blood cells to quickly produce antibodies when the pathogen invades.
