Represent number bonds using objects, drawings, and equations.
Compose and decompose the number 8 using different combinations.

Interactive whiteboard, tablet/chromebook.
Number cards, counters or connecting cubes
Lesson flow and timing.
Warm-up (5 min): show an octopus and ask how many arms it has. count 8 arms together.
Direct Instruction (20 min): Show students how to split 8 arms into two groups. place students in to small groups.
Wrap -up (5 min): check students understanding. students will independently draw two groups that make 8 and write the addition equation.
Student Activity (30 min): Students will work together to find different ways to split 8 arms into two groups. Each student will take a turn counting, moving the arms, recording the equation, and explaining the answer. Each group will use a tablet/Chromebook to show one of their number bonds digitally.
