DEFENITION
The continuation of life after death through a process of dynamic, shifting energy being born again into a new physical existence.
Unlike "reincarnation" (which requires a permanent, unchanging soul), rebirth implies a fluid stream of identity changing from moment to moment and life to life.
Existence is viewed as a river—constantly moving, never consisting of the exact same water, yet forming one continuous, unbroken flow.
HOW THE MECHANICS WORK
Rejects the idea of an immortal "soul" acting as a passenger changing cars. There is no hidden, fixed "you."
A changing stream of consciousness, mental tendencies, character traits, and karmic energy.
Karma & Craving
Driven by Tanha (the intense, subconscious craving to exist).
At the moment of biological death, physical functions stop, but this mental and karmic energy retains its momentum, immediately seeking a new physical container (a womb or embryo) to continue manifesting.
core metaphors
The Candle Flame: Using one lit candle to light a second candle. The new flame is not physically the old flame, but it is entirely caused by it. The person in the next life is neither identical to nor entirely separate from the person who died.
The Wave: A wave traveling across the ocean. The physical molecules of water don't actually travel across the sea; rather, it is the energy passing through the water that creates the appearance of a moving object.
The Billiard Balls: One moving billiard ball striking a stationary one. The first ball stops, but its kinetic energy and momentum are transferred directly into the second ball, setting it in motion.

Key Weaknesses
The Identity Problem: If there is no permanent soul or memory link connecting the person who died to the baby who is born, in what meaningful sense are they actually the "same" person?
The Problem of Justice: Critics ask if it is morally fair for a newborn child to inherit and suffer from the negative karmic energy of a dead person they have no memory or knowledge of.
Scientific Materialism: Neuroscientists argue that when the biological brain dies, all streams of consciousness and mental energy end instantly, leaving no energy behind to trigger a new life.
