What Would I Like to Change
Surely, it has to be the balance and prioritzation of my tasks. Efficiency has to change.
What's the problem?
There are many things on my to-do list, but I don't end up doing them. There are so many things that I need to do that I end up pushing off. And then at the end of the day or the end of the week, I feel bad about myself.
I still have not done my self reflection, I haven't re-done my pitch or practiced my pitch. I have not posted on LinkedIn. There are a couple assignments that I have forgotten to submit or just didn't submit at all.
I have not prayed 3x a day like I desire to.
What has went well this semester?
Have gotten into some good classes that will really help my future. So I've set the foundation for work that I'd be really glad I did.
I have reconnected with friends, spent good time with them. Whether it's making sure I'm getting lunch with people I've not seen in a long time, hanging out with them at ENC after hours
The malicious part of this is that I've been afraid to be alone, at times, so I'm always asking to study with people. But the problem is that these group studying sessions become social sessions, and nothing ends up being done
I'm not on social media. When I wake up, I wake up to do my first task for the day, rather than wasting time scrolling on Instagram or Twitter.
I have really nice clothes that I like. It has felt good wearing them.
So, it's a matter of using my time more efficiently.
Where are the areas I am wasting my time?
Not doing my work at full speed because "I don't want to feel the stress of hurrying"
"Working" with friends
Spending 45 minutes after ENC in conversation and the slow packing up. I don't have to wait for people to finish packing up. We can rotate from week to week, but it should take max 4 leaders. I'm wasting a crucial 1 hour in total by staying an extra 30 minutes in the gbm room and another 20 minutes of staying in Pub too long.
Even though I have limited screen time, I think there are times where I'm scrolling on Fantasy for some stimulation. Some escape.
I also think I have not been able to get into "deep work" states at all this semester. Have I even smelt flow state once? I don't think so.
From Berwick's "The Science of Improvement"
A central idea an improvement is to make changes incrementally, learning from experience while doing do: plan-do-study-act
So as i make changes to above, I need to sit down on Friday and assess whether if these changes were successful. Maybe that can help me narrow down the "why x is failing"
Reconsider thresholds for action on evidence. Do not favor the status quo. Don't be biased to staying the same. So the routine I have of playing soccer at Centennial every Thursday evening has become a comfort, but if the routine is harming my performance, then I have to weight it out properly rather than being biased to routine
CMO: Context+ Mechanism= Outcome
Programs work (have successful outcomes) onlu insofar as they intorduce the appropiate ideas and opportunities (mechanisms) in the appropiate social and cultural conditions (contexts).
