There are a lot of ancient innovations that kickstarted trade, this includes the writing systems set in place during Mesopotamia which helped keep track of trades, and then also things like the Silk Road and advanced shipbuilding which helped send trade all around the world.

There are multiple innovations that have changed trade, the most influential ones come from the industrial revolution era, including the steam engine, and then also later innovations like the intermodal shipping container.
There are also modern innovations in the 21st century that make trade much more efficient and generally faster, this is all done through the Internet, this is more done through people and companies, like amazon and eBay. Electronic funding systems and online banking systems make it much easier for payments.
