Reactions with water
Cold water (liquid)
-
Metals above zinc react, while metals below magnesium do not.
Steam (gas)
-
Metals above lead react, while metals below iron do not.
Reactions with acid
-
Metals above the Hydrogen Line react, while metals below the Hydrogen Line do not.
Reduction
The lower the metal is in the reactivity series, the more readily the reduction of the metal oxide will occur.
Metals in oxide form are ions, hence if they are more metallic, they do not want to gain back the ions they lost in an ionic compound, and vice versa.
-
-
Displacement
More metallic / reactive metal has a greater tendency to form positive ions compared to a less metallic / reactive metal.

Answering techniques
State the reactivity of the metal in contrast to the other metal (ie, Calcium is more reactive than lead)
The product of displacement is a metal deposit (solid), and an aqueous solution. Deposit is formed on original metal.
