        APPLICATION TO NURSING PRACTICE
        
        Practicing non-maleficence will prevent further harm towards Margot
        
        This can be practised by ensuring safe care is provided always
        
        Example: Providing time and patience for Margot to use her walker to go to the toilet
        
        Autonomy
        
        DEFINITION: The principle in which an individual is able to exercise their own rights and decision-making (Gomez-Virseda et al., 2020).

        Example: respecting confidentiality when reporting the incident Margot experienced
        
        Margot communicated her consent to the examination from the current nurse by nodding her head
        
        Margot communicated that she did not want the situation to be reported, as she was afraid she would exert more harm from other nurses displaying her capacity to make her own decisions
      - Battery
        
        DEFINITION: Purposefully and voluntarily acting in an intentionally reckless or negligent behaviour through unconsented physical contact with another being (Stewart, B. D, 2024).

        Margot describes the registered nurse as "abrupt and physically rough"
        
        The registered nurse not allowing Margot time to use her walker to use the toilet and instead unconsensually drags her by the wrist
      - Negligence
        
        Result
        
        Margot refusing proper care evident through poor self hygiene and incontinence due to fear of being hurt again
        
        Incontinence: Being unable to voluntarily pass faeces or urinary content (Maeda et al., 2021).
        
        Margot's loss of trust in the health care staff is evident through Margot "avoiding asking for help"
