Class activity:
I will have two corns on the table. One is rotten and the other one is fresh. Learners will have to identify which corn is save to eat.

Sub-Topic 1:
The process from corn to maize meal.
Concept:

1.Plant the maize.
Grow and harvest it.
Remove the kernels.
Clean and dry them.
Grind into maize meal.
Pack the maize meal.
Class activity:
I will have corn in a cup, that the children must crush. To see if it becomes maize meal.
Following Naude and Meier (2025, p. 113) Conduct Investigation, design a model/prototype.

Machines and tools used in the process.
Concept:
Learners will be showed pictures of the different machines used. And in the order the process takes place, start to finish.
Class activity:
There will be pictures on the Discovery Table (Theme Table). Learners will show me as teacher, where the corn starts it's journey up to the end where it becomes maize meal.

Packaging of maize meal.
Concept:
Naude and Meier (2025, p.155) describe food packaging as the process of protecting and containing food to keep it safe, fresh and easy to transport and use.
Class activity:
I will have a bag of maize meal on the Discovery Table (Theme Table). So that learners can touch the bag and feel if it is good quality packaging.

Different parts of the corn plant.
Concept:
Nebraska Corn Board (2026)
, Roots, Stalk, Leaf, Ear, Kernels, Nodes, Tassel, Husk and silk.
Class activity:
A picture of a corn plant will be pasted against the wall. We as a class will say out loud the different parts.
Sub- Topic 3:
Different types of corn.
Concept:
There is Sweet corn, Dent corn, Flint corn and popcorn.

I will place three different types of corn on the table for the learners to see, what is the different types.
