Science Understanding (SU)
Definition:Students develop and use science knowledge to explain and predict phenomena and apply their knowledge to new situations.
Sub-strands:
Biological Sciences → Understanding living things
Chemical Sciences → Understanding substances and their properties
Earth and Space Sciences → Understanding Earth and its place in space
Physical Sciences → Understanding forces, motion, matter and energy
EYLF Connection – Outcome 4:Children become confident and involved learners by exploring their environment, developing knowledge, investigating and making discoveries.
Science as a Human Endeavour (SHE)
Definition:Children learn about the nature and development of science and understand how science is used to explain the natural and physical world and support decision-making and problem-solving.

Use and influence of science
EYLF Connection – Outcome 2:Children become connected with and contribute to their world by learning about people, society, the natural environment and sustainability.
Science Inquiry (SI)
Definition:Children investigate ideas, develop explanations, solve problems, draw conclusions and communicate findings.

Communicating
EYLF Connection – Outcome 4:Children develop curiosity, creativity, problem-solving and inquiry skills through investigation and exploration.
