3D visual arts provide children with opportunities to explore, create and convey their ideas with 3D materials. Resources for children to use include clay, recycled materials, natural materials, loose parts and textiles to create their own. Children become creative, imaginative, develop fine motor skills, spatial awareness and problem-solving skills through modelling, joining, constructing, carving, weaving and assembling. The 3D art process is not necessarily linear. Children can experiment with materials, trial ideas, make decisions and repeat. Open-ended experiences are valuable as there is no right or wrong answer; children can make choices and create their own ideas. The role of the educator is to prepare appropriate materials, ask questions, facilitate children's thinking and record the learning process rather than creating the artwork for them. This indicates that 3D art is not about making a perfect ending result: it's about the children's learning and creative process (Dinham & Chalk, 2022; McArdle, 2012).
