Types of Gestures
Stops
Sounds made by completely blocking the air, and then releasing it suddenly.
Example: /p/, /b/, /t/
Fricatives
Sounds made when air passes through a narrow space, creating friction (noise).
Example: /f/, /s/, /v/
Nasals
Sounds made when air goes through the nose because the mouth is blocked.
Example: /m/, /n/
Trills
Sounds made when an articulator (like the tongue) vibrates many times because of the air.
Example: Spanish strong “r” (rr)

Sounds made when air goes around the sides of the tongue, not the center.
Example: /l/
