About the priest hole
The Priest Hole in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was filmed on location in Porthmadog, Gwynedd, Wales. This coastal town stood in for the fictional Cairnholm Island.
Role in film: It’s where Jake and his father stay during their trip to the island, and it serves as Jake’s base before he discovers Miss Peregrine’s mansion.
The name of the hotel and former pub is the Priest Hole. This is a reference to the Reformation in the sixteenth century when Catholicism was outlawed in England and Scotland. At various locations, concealed places were created where Priests could hide, which were referred to as "Priest holes"
