Wave: A disturbance of matter that results in energy being transferred from one place to another, without transfer of matter overall.
Lightning- Even though lightning and thunder happen at the same time, light travels faster then sound so you'll always see the lightning before you hear it. A way you can check how far you are away is by counting how many seconds are between the lightning and the thunder, then divide that number by three (for km) to find how many km you where away from the strike.
