My Reflection
Back home, I grew up watching my family make and value beautiful things — woven dhaka cloth, colourful mala garlands and murti paintings — and I saw how making them brought people together, not just the finished piece.
I'll celebrate each child's ideas instead of expecting identical artwork — just like every Thangka or prayer flag has its own maker's hand in it.
I'll ask for guidance rather than assume or copy cultural designs — because I'd want others to ask before using Nepali symbols too.
I'll include local First Nations perspectives respectfully and humbly, remembering how important my own culture is to me and offering that same respect to the First Nations cultures on whose land I now teach.
My family and culture shaped what I value in art, and I want to bring that sense of community and care into my teaching.
