always been around even since singal celled organisms have a perception of self and non self
the first cluster of neurotransmitters was 600 mya in a jellyfish like organism though it was decentralised
the first brian evolved in the cambrian period 540 mya wwhen neurtons clustered together between senory inputs and motor outputs seperating themwith a intermidiate layer of nevrve cells.
prediory behavior evolved here leading to the evolutionary arms race driving the evolution of bigger and better brain as senses had to get bertter and better
lgiht detecting cells got better and better and need more neurons to precess the information leading to the frist brains in the late cambrian
the first conciousness is though to have evoloved in the first vertibrate fish although i is though have independanlty evolved in both cepholopods and arthopods
vision is though to have been the first and most important in the evolution of the brain

exteroceptive awareness
awareness of the esxternal world beaed on forming inages of internal representation of the external wolrd
interoceptive awareness
awareness of the animal's internal state e.g. sensations from interla organs
affective awareness
this precousor of emotion is basically the animal's likes and dislikes the attachment of valence or value to an experience

special neurobilopgical features for animials to be capable of primary sensory cosciousness, they reuqrire the evoultion of special neuobiologicial freatures that can create images and affects. these eatures include brais cmposed of large numbers of neuorns with great neuron compleixity and inter connectiviy
