Separation of solid in solid mixtures

Sublimation
Principle- This method is based on the difference in the sublimable and non sublimable nature of the components in a mixture
Techinque- On heating the sublimable component directly changes into vapour, leaving the non sublimable component behind. The vapour will then cooled and collected as a solid
Ex- Separation of iodine from sand
Magnetic separation
Principle- Based on the difference between magnetic and non magnetic components in a mixture
Technique- Magnet is used to attract the magnetic substance ,separating them from the non magnetic material
Ex- Separating iron fillings from copper turnings, sulphur or sand
Solvent extraction
Principle- Based on the difference in solibility of the components in a specific solvent
Technique- Add solvent to dissolve the soluble component, filter to separate the insoluble residue, and evaporate the filtrate to recover the dissolved component.
Ex- Separation of powdered sulphur from copper usin carbon disulphide
Separation of solid liquid mixture
Filteration
Principle- This method is based on the difference in solubility or particle size of the components. One component is insoluble and can be separated from the liquid
Technique- A filter paper is placed in a funnel and the mixture is poured through it. The insoluble residue remains in filter paper and the liquid passes through the filter paper called the filtrate
Ex- Separation of chalk powder from water
