- - - - The purpose of the text would be to bring awareness about the increase of gun violence within the United States. There was a string of mass shooting incidents through the United States during August of 2019 which spanned so closely and the immense grief it brung pushed Del Rey to create a political art peace.
- - - - The chorus of the song is “I'm still looking for my own version of America / One without the gun, where the flag can freely fly”. The placement of the pronoun I’m is very important. As previously discussed, Del Rey is often viewed as a patriot for American idealism. She notes her past credibility on this by implying although she seems to understand the politics, history, and tradition of the United States, she does not, and she is just as disillusioned towards the state of America as others in the country.
      - Within the opening lines of the song. Del Rey sings “ Pulled over to watch the children in the park / We used to only worry for them after dark “. Her use of pronouns again within these lines are very purposeful. She creates herself within a situation, which creates a sense of invented credibility and discusses the understanding she feelings towards her audience so she is able to create commentary. She builds credibility as she understands what it is like to worry for others. She says we, placing herself alongside her audience so they do not feel alinated.
      - A part of the chorus as well “No bombs in the sky, only fireworks when you and I collide / It's just a dream I had in mind” discusses her previous knowledge within the scenario. She is aware and understands the sadness behind the constant tragedy of the United States wishes. The only feelings and sentiments which permeate throughout the United States are feelings of hope, joy, and love. She builds this as previously stated through her perceived understanding of the American Dream.
- - - - Del Rey’s lyricism continues with the pathos and her use of situational pronouns. “I used to go to drive-ins and listen to the blues / So many things that I think twice about before I do, no”. In this line, she is not only alluding to her past experience within the American Dream, but her relieved allocation of the way things used to be within the United States. She attempts to bring feelings of nostalgia within the public so they understand her message more and how she longs for a time where the things which she used to do and were accepted would return.
      - In the lines “Didn't work, so I left for Fresno / It was quite a scenic drive” she recounts her experiences with America. How it has taken her time to understand the country even though she has lived for so long which builds up the chorus of her searching for an America which accepts her. This creates a sense of relatability within a public so lost within tragedy. Del Reys alludes to her audience of her understanding within their grief although she appears as someone who is well immersed in topics in situations such as this.
      - “I'm still looking for my own version of America”. As previously discussed, she places herself so strategically within these lines. She discusses how her beliefs and understanding of America is not solidified. She understands the audience's confusion during this time. How the America they seemed to know is so ever changing. Del Rey plays into this by creating recurrence within the state of America.
- - - - Lana Del Rey writes “Took a train up to Lake Placid / That's another place and time, where”. In this, she is discussing the formalities of the United States. She is building logic through stating the instabilities of doing mundane topics within a country so suffocated in violence. The logic she has built is done through evidence. She has taken a train to Lake Placid before, so she understands the nuances to it, thus leading her into determining it is no longer safe.
      - “One without the gun, where the flag can freely fly” is where Del Rey discusses how the United States no longer is able to stand in its past views due to constant violence. She uses logos as this is known through her participation within the country. Del Rey is now disillusioned towards America as its constant violence has outrun its values.
      - "So many things that I think twice about before I do, no”. Through this line, Del Rey may be alluding to her past. Though she is talking about her trip to lake placid, she may also be talking about her romanization of the American dream and traditions within her career and how she halted it due to the continuous disillusioned feeling towards the U.S. She uses logos as she understands people will think rationally about her. She understands people will not assume her beliefs support the ongoing violence.
