REGIONS
GEOGRAPHICAL REGION
set of contiguous places, with common characteristics or some preferential relationship between them
distinguished and differentiated from surrounding places, which have different characteristics and connections and therefore belong to other regions
the regional government makes a law that is applied in every part of the region > i.e. Lombardy laws are applied from Milan to Livigno
-
cultural region is where there are the same cultural signs > i.e. Catholic region, Islamic region
physical region is where there are the same physical characteristics, such as Pianura Padana
Province of Bergamo > it has a variety of places like mountain, flat, but laws are the same in the whole territory
ECONOMIC REGIONS
formal (or homogeneous or uniform) on the basis of certain attributes that characterize all the places that make them up in more or less the same way
rice-growing regions, industrial regions, urban regions
Ile de France, Ruhr, the urban area of Milan is the same as Bergamo (in fact the airport is also called "Milano-Bergamo Airport") > identified on the basis of vertical relationships
functionally identified on the basis of horizontal relationships > i.e. Riviera Romagnola, Costa Azzurra, Costa Smeralda, Costa Brava
homogeneous regions according to Claval > particular types of relief or climate correspond to different types of flora and agricultural landscapes
-
-
program region > type of complex region which corresponds to the spatial scope within which planned interventions take place
-
in Europe, the area within which the protocols of the alpine convention operate
HIERARCHICAL REGIONS
between the different centers there is a hierarchy, linked to the number and quality of services each center offers > the centers that are better provided in terms of quality and quantity will be at a higher level, the others at a lower level
-
service centers each serving a surrounding area, the size of which depends on the number and rarity of the services offered by the center
the hierarchy of central localities thus generates a hierarchy of functional regions corresponding to gravitation areas of different widths, boxed into each other
POLARIZED REGIONS
in the geographical space history and attraction of urban areas, imbalances often arise due to agglomeration processes, resulting in polarized regional structures
in the countries of old industrialization, an interconnected polycentric regional structure has thus been formed in which the population and the various activities are distributed in various smaller centers, connected to each other and to the main centers
territorial knowledge are all the competences (immaterial) that each inhabitant has in its own life, they all take place somewhere in the Earth and influence the Earth development
polycentric network structures seem to be the most suitable way to foster the development of strong areas
