**One-line thesis
Singapore must find its own competitive positioning in AI to reap its benefit BUT must make sure that no one is left behind
My own Framing
It is important to make sure that AI is not a reason for income disparity
Singapore chose to harness our existing strength and use AI as a multipler to strengthen our position + gain new grounds
E.g. National AI Missions were based on sectors that we were originally alr a good at like financial services and connectivity
Singapore also uses AI to solve existing issues e.g. health with ageing population
While we dont compete on frontier models with USA or China, we focus on where we have domain expertise or to improve our lives e.g. SEA, trusted site
E.g. SEA-LION, SEA languages are underrep in LLMs, SEA-LION is a familty of LLMs trained on SEA languages and cultural contexts
MERa-Lion: multilingual audio LLM for SEA
Singapore puts itself on the map by hosting events such as Singapore AI Resarch Week

Refreshed priority in May:
chose 4 sectors (national AI missions) to focus on sector-level transofmration
Govt
Research
Frontier companies have setup labs over here e.g.Google DeepMind, NVIDIA etc.
Refreshed priority:
AI Research Centre of Excellence
Critical mass of core AI engineering talent + complement with AI bilingual research talent
(can support national missions)
grow strong research talent pipeline
FOR EACH POLICY, why is singapore doing this? what is our constraint?
