Yin-Yang (suffering coming from the imbalance of yin-yang. Can get harmony/tao from the right balance)
Yin (dark, night, rest, feminine)
Yang (light, day, movement, masculine)
-
Complimentary forces not opposites. Black dot in white yang and white dot in black yang represent the importance of balance)
Taoism
Lao Tzu (founder of Taoism) - author of Tao Te Ching - emphasized simplicity and finding harmony/tao
-
ch'i (life force) - force/energy that sustains all things and flows in all living things - keeps harmony
-
-
Wu Wei (action of non-action) - the practice of acting in harmony withTao and not struggling against it - flowing and adapting not giving up
Alchemy (a system for self transformation) - meditation and creating exercises - helps work on Wu Wei and Ch’i
Reflection: I learned about the five elements more and how they fit into Taoism. I learned about them as a system and pattern of change that is all around us. While making the map I learned a lot more about how Taoism is focused on regaining harmony and Tao since suffering comes from the imbalance.
