plants transport (anna) - Coggle Diagram
plants transport (anna)
absorption of water
WHY? :root hair cell have long protrusion structure / elongated
increases surface area: water + mineral salts can be absorbed into plant at faster speed
water enters the root hair cells by osmosis
transport in plants
xylem + phloem grouped together in
vascular bundles
in stems
xylem functions
transports water + mineral salts from roots to stem + leaves
provide strength + support to the plant
phloem function
phloem tissues consist of living cells, they involve in transporting food
how water enters a plant from soil to reach leave of plant
WHY?: root hair cell specialised cell in plants
roots are
underground
, thus sunlight cannot enter
root cell does
not
have
chloroplast
, contains chlorophyll for
photosynthesizing
to produce
food
and
oxygen
how water from soil enter plant to reach leaves on rainy day?
Soil to root hair cell: when water concentration in soil higher than inside root hair cells
Root hair cell to root cell A: water enters root hair cell, increases water concentration + becomes higher than root cell A.
Root cell A to root cell B: water moves into root cell A, increases water concentration inside cell + becomes higher than neighbouring root cell B.
Root cell B - xylem vessel: water moves into root cell B, increases water concentration inside cell ,becomes higher then xylem vessel.
xylem vessel to leaves: In leaves , transpiration takes place. transpiration is evaporation of water from leaves.
transpiration in leaves creates transpiration pull to move water upwards along xylem vessel from roots to leaves
Hence , water moves from root cell B to xylem vessel by osmosis.
Hence , water moves from root cell A to root cell B by osmosis.
Water moves from root cell A to root cell B by osmosis.
water molecules enter root hair cell by osmosis

how red dye particles enter root hair cell of the plant?
xylem tissue transports water in plants , as red dye dissolves in water the red dye particles
is transported together with the water, causing it to enter the root hair cell
similarity and difference between osmosis and diffusion
similarity
difference
only allow certain substance to pass through
semi-permeable membrane
only allow the spread of
water molecules through a filter paper
spread from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration
osmosis: allow plant cells obtain dissovled mineral salts when water enters root hair cells
osmosis
diffusion
allow any substance to pass through
