- - - - The Interior Monologue
        
        Modern writers used a new technique called the "interior monologue" to show the continuous flow of thoughts inside a character's mind.
        
        Unlike traditional stories, it often lacks chronological order, and the action happens only inside the character's head.
        
        There are two types: indirect (the narrator still guides the reader and uses grammar) and direct (the narrator disappears, and thoughts flow completely free without introduction).
    - - James Joyce was a great Modernist writer who wrote Dubliners, a collection of short stories about ordinary people in Dublin.
      - A major theme in his work is "paralysis," which means his characters feel trapped and are unable to change their difficult lives.
      - He used the technique of "epiphany," which is a sudden moment of deep realization caused by a simple object or event.
    - - Virginia Woolf was another famous Modernist writer who focused on characters' feelings, memories, and inner lives.
      - Her novel Mrs Dalloway takes place in just one single day in London.
      - The novel connects the lives of Clarissa, a high-society woman, and Septimus, a traumatized war veteran.
      - Woolf used the "tunnelling technique" to explore her characters' pasts and connect them through shared memories.
