        -ignores wider structural factors influencing such as poverty and patriarchy
        -ignores situations where victims are unaware of their victimisation, as with some crimes against the environment, and where harm is done but no law is broken

        Mawby and Walklate argue structures such as poverty and patriarchy makes poor and women mire likely to be a victim as they have 'structural powerlessness'
        Tombs and Whyte argue the criminal justice system can deny that someone is a victim by not applying a label to them. This makes the crimes of capitalism hidden as structures
      - EVALUATION:
        -disregards the role victims may play in bringing victimisation on themselves through their own choices e.g. not making their home secure
        -it is valuable in drawing attention to the way that 'victim' status is constructed by the power and how this benefits the powerful at the expense of the powerless
