Surah was revealed after an incident within the Prophetﷺ’s household, when he stayed longer than usual in the houses of one the Azwājun Muṭahharāt where he ﷺ was offered honey. Out of natural feelings of jealousy that can arise between co-wives, two of the Mothers of the Believers agreed that when the Prophet ﷺ visited them, they would mention noticing an odor on his breath, knowing his concern for cleanliness and pleasant scents. As a result, the Prophet ﷺ made an oath that he would never eat honey again. He also confided a matter to one of his wives and requested that it remain private, but the information was later shared. Allah then revealed verses addressing these events to teach enduring lessons through real human experiences within the best of families.
