The tiger: The tiger is representative of evil in the world. When discussing God as a creator alongside evil, it brings in the idea of the inconsistent triad, wherein if God is supposedly omnipotent and omnibenevolent by nature, suffering should not exist, otherwise God does not hold their correct attributes, thus does not exist or is not worthy of worship in any case. This brings into question the nature of God, alongside the nature of creation. In terms of its sister poem, The Lamb, the tiger in this poem represents experience, highlighting the world's gritty realities, while the lamb represents innocence, having little fear or awareness as it protected either by its parents, or perhaps by a shepherd, but is overall shielded from harsh realities.
