-
Who was he?
born in 1869 in siberia, he was a peasant who gained power through religion. He became Russian orthodox in 1890 and moved to st ptersburg. He was a preacher and in 1905 after gaining lots of popularity he was introduced to the Tsar. In 1912 there was a health crisis with Alexi the only son of the Tsar. It seemed uncurable but Rasputin the so called healer and preacher managed to heal him with what appeared to be supernatural powers. He developed a relationship with the Tsarina the wife of Nicholas II. In 1916 Yusupov assassinated him after failing to poison him. This happened because many nobles disliked his origins as a peasant and felt threatened.
Rumours spread a lot and because of German propaganda and unhappiness rumours soon spread that the populations leaders were betraying them. Peasantries beliefs were also reinforced by similar stories spreading in the nobility. French and British ambassadors tasked with writing back to their countries with the current state of Russia took these rumours as fact misleading foreign governments
