Chapter 6: Probability
-
Probability: The fraction or proportion represented by a particular outcome when compared to all possible outcomes
-
Ranges from "never occurs" (0%, 0/X, .0) or "always occurs" (100%, X/X, 1)
In a frequency distribution graph, a portion of the graph corresponds to a probability of that/those scores
-
Normal Distribution: A symmetrical distribution with a single mode in the middle, where frequency tapers off as you move farther from the middle. It is defined by a specific equation using constants pi and e.
Unit Normal Table: A complete (up to +-4) table of z-score values that also provides the proportion of the distribution within the tail, body, and between the mean and the score

Identifies percentile ranks: Scores defined by the percentage of individuals with that score or lower. A score associated with a percentile rank is a percentile
Quartiles: A set of percentile ranks that includes the 25th, 50th, 75th, and 100th percentile, each of which accounts for an additional 25% of the data
Recall from Chapter 4...
Interquartile Range: A range defined using the 3rd quartile (75th percentile) as the upper value and the 1st quartile (25th percentile) as the lower value
