Henry intervened because he believed French control of Brittany could threaten Calais, England's most important trading outpost in Europe.
After France gained Brittany in 1491, Calais was not lost and did not become unusable as a trading centre.
England continued to trade with European markets, particularly in cloth and wool.
Henry's later diplomacy with France helped maintain stable relations, which was generally beneficial for trade.
