The Sky At Night :star:
Natural Science (NS)
The Moon
The moon changes shape because of how the sun reflects off of it (Ölçer, 2024)
Observe the moon for a week and draw observations (Department of Basic Education, 2011)
The Stars
Stars are far away suns, that shoot heat and light out in all directions, they form patterns called constellations
Learners observe the stars at night and draw any patterns (constellations) that they observe. Learners can then compare and discuss their drawing at school the next day.
The Sun
-
Learners track shadows around objects throughout the day, forming a basic understanding of a sundial, to see how the sun corresponds to the changing of time (this is well integrated with all 3 disciplines)
-
Technology
Making a star viewer
-
Learners will build a star viewer using a cardboard tube and adding pinholes using a pencil to ensure safety (Naudé & Meier, 2025)
Moon Phases Model
Using light can show how the moon phases occur (Connolly, 2025)
