HARMFUL SUBSTANCES
STEP 2: Separate the Victim safely (If you cannot turn off the power)
If you cannot turn off the electricity quickly, you must separate the person from the live wire using a non-conducting object.
Safe items to use: A dry wooden stick, a dry broom handle, a wooden chair, or dry clothing.
What to stand on: Stand on a dry rubber mat or a thick pile of newspapers to insulate yourself from the floor.
1. Golden Rule: Do Not Touch the Victim Directly!
The Main Danger: A person touching a live electrical wire becomes a conductor themselves.
What will happen: If you touch them with your bare hands, the electrical current will pass directly into your body, and you will get shocked too.
STEP 4: Give Basic First Aid (While waiting for the ambulance)
If the victim is conscious (awake and talking): * Keep them calm, quiet, and comfortable.
Look at their skin for signs of electrical burns and loosen any tight clothing around their neck or waist.
If the victim is unconscious (not awake/not breathing):
You must check their pulse and breathing.
If they are not breathing, immediately start artificial respiration (CPR/mouth-to-mouth rescue breaths) to save their life.
2. Action Plan: Step-by-Step Emergency Response
STEP 1: Turn Off the Power Immediately
Break the circuit right away.
How: Unplug the machine, turn off the wall switch, or pull the main safety switch at the fuse box.
STEP 3: Call for Help
Dial the emergency number immediately to call an ambulance and get professional medical assistance.
