Latin America nations had to seek aid from both superpowers. This caused harsh feelings on all sides because everyone was trying to win them over.
After the revolution Fidel Castro came to power are it was good for i wile. But he was a harsh dictator. When he took over the US owned sugar mills and refineries. the US stoped all trade with Cuba
When trade stopped Cuba went to the Soviets. We tried to invade Cuba but failed and was humiliating for the US.

I think it was a justified choice in order to stop the possible spread of communism.
In oder to stop the spread the US began a propaganda campaign to turn the army and people against their leader.
