How does coffee effect the growth of plants

Variables in coffee
Coffee is not just cafeine but contains other things such as sugars, lipids ect. Making it difficult to prove weather changes are from caffeine or other variables.
Complex equipment needed
Respiration can not be measured by a ruler. Equipment like gas pressure sensors, CO2 probes, Respirometers which are expensive.
Assumptions made by human based research
People often predict that caffeine will have a positive impact and speed up the respiration in plants, however it often acts as a metabolic toxin to plant cells
Sorcing Issues
If using things like yeast or sprouted seeds, high concentrations of coffee will likely kill the test subject.

Can measure gas exchnage which can give results in anywhere from minutes to hours.

How does the sugar concentration effect the rate of cellular respiration in yeast?

People often assume more sugar will continue to increase the rate of respiration. However, If the sugar concentration is to high it usually creats a hypertonic enviroment. causing respiration rates to plumit.
Temperature Sensetivity
Yeast is highly sensetive to thermal changes. if the water is to cold the enzymes 'Sleep'. If its to hot the yeast dies. you must maintain a constant temperature water bath.
Activation Variables
Dried yeast takes time to 'Wake up". You must keep the time the yeast is in water to 'wake up' constant throughout the etire experiment.

Yeast uses sugar as its primary fuel sorce for anarobic respiration, This garuantees a clear, visable relationship between the depended and independed variables

Yeast respirates relativly quickly. measurable CO2 production shown as either bubbles, foam or gas will be seen in 5-15 minutes

Active dry yeast and standard table sugar are low in cost.
Flexiable equipment
You can measure respiration with things like a balloon over a flask or counting bubbles.
