Where N visits his grandmother, Nera, in her dusty, smoke-filled house after months away. She offers him food and lectures him about arguing with his father and wanting to travel instead of helping the family. Nathan stays mostly silent, feeling emotionally distant and unable to express himself. During the visit, he becomes fascinated by a strange mechanical cicada on her table. When he leaves, their goodbye feels cold and unresolved. Nathan realizes they said very little of importance, and he once again leaves without eating her food.
