Indigenous species
If these are used then this provides the resources such as food and nesting sites for other indigenous species that are adapted to use them. In addition these indigenous trees should be well suited for growth in the local climate and potentially be less impacted by local fungi and diseases.
-
Mixed age structure
Having plantations with a variety of different ages of trees ensures that there is a range of abiotic factors present. There will be different light intensities, humidity and windspeeds in different parts of the forest which will be suited to various species range of tolerance.
The different age trees will also provide a range of microhabitats and niches to support a wide range of species.
Having mixed species plantations reduces the need to harvest all trees at the same time as not all will be mature therefore minimising overall wildlife disturbance and soil erosion.

-
Deciduous
The deciduous forest has four distinct seasons, spring, summer, autumn, and winter

Forest production
LEDCs
To export roundwood and import more expensive, finished products
But as LEDCs develop, they are improving their capacity to manufacture and then export high-value goods
-
MEDCs
Import huge volumes of hardwood as roundwood (tree stems) and then convert them into high value products e.g. furniture
