TÒ HE – A VIETNAMESE FOLK ART
Introduction
Do you know what it is? This is called Tò He. It is a traditional Vietnamese folk art.(nghệ thuật dân gian )
Tò He is a type of figurine(tượng nhỏ) made from sticky rice dough.(bột gạo nếp)
It is a popular folk art from northern(bắc) Vietnam.
Tò He has been around for over 400 years.
It originally comes from Xuân La village, Hanoi.
How to make Tò He?
The artisan(nghệ nhân) uses only their hands and simple tools(công cụ đơn sơ). It is very skillful!(điêu luyện )
The dough is made from glutinous rice flour(bột gạo nếp ) and natural food coloring.(màu thực phẩn tự nhiên )
The artisan shapes (nhào nặn, hình thành) the dough into animals, flowers, or cartoon characters.
Each figurine(tượng nhỏ - To He )is put on a small bamboo stick.(que tre)
It takes only a few minutes to make one figurine.

Tò He is often seen at festivals, markets, and tourist attractions.(điểm thu hút khách du lịch )
It was a favorite toy for children in the past.
Today, it is also a souvenir(món quà lưu niệm ) for tourists from all over the world.
In 2017, Tò He was recognized(coi là, công nhận là) as a national intangible cultural heritage of
Vietnam.
